Symptoms of encephalitis include joint painThe onset of illness from encephalitis virus typically ranges from 4 to 10 days. It can manifest as either a systemic or encephalitic illness. Some people also can be infected with the disease and not develop any symptoms.

If you have a systemic infection, you may experience chills, fever, joint pain or muscle pain that lasts 1 to 2 weeks. Encephalitic symptoms may include fever, headache, irritability, drowsiness, anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea, bluish skin from poor circulation, convulsions, irritability and coma.

About one third of all people with encephalitis die from the disease, so it is important to visit a physician for immediate medical attention.
