Tecnu Extreme To Remove Polyethylene Beads

Over the past couple of years, as research has been conducted, and a variety of studies published, we along with consumers have learned a great deal about polyethylene beads and their impact on the environment. As many of you know, Tecnu Extreme® Medicated Poison Ivy Scrub currently contains polyethylene beads, also known as microbeads. As our understanding of microbeads and the initiatives to remove them have grown, we are committed to making a change. Many of you have inquired, and we are here to say, the time has come!

Years ago when Tecnu Extreme was first developed, the impression of microbeads on the environment was not widely known. As the years have passed by, we have recently begun to understand how microbeads affect the environment, particularly, waterways. Similarly, consumers are also starting to question the use of microbeads in their everyday products (cosmetics, exfoliates, toothpaste, etc.). Upon learning about the impact of microbeads and the potential harm they cause, we set out to find a more environmentally-friendly substitute that didn't compromise the quality of Tecnu Extreme®; we knew there had to be a way to protect the environment and provide an exceptional product.

After a great deal of research and testing, a suitable, more environmentally-friendly replacement has been found! Now, many of you have been asking, when will this change take place? We assure you, we are moving as quickly as we can. A change such as this, is a monumental task to take on. Any change to our products requires the proper testing and validation in compliance with the FDA, a process that can take time. But, we are well on our way and expect to see the change over the next several months!

With the spread of awareness, we hope others will consider replacing polyethylene beads in their products as well. There has got to be a way to get the job done, all the while protecting our beloved outdoors.

We sincerely thank the consumers who voiced their concerns and helped spark this change!

Until next time,

Live life. Get Outdoors!™
