Earth Day 2013
Did you know that today, April 22nd 2013 is Earth
Day? Yes, today is the day we celebrate mother earth and all
of her offerings. A day to appreciate the beautiful planet we
live on, and a day to reflect on our choices that impact the health
and well-being of this amazing sphere we call home. What steps are
you and your family, community, or business taking to reduce your
carbon footprint? Want to help, and unsure of how to get
started in the "Go-Green" movement? Below we've gathered a list of
ideas to get you started!
1.) Switch out all light-bulbs in your home to energy efficient
models like compact fluorescent lights (CFLs).
2.) Turn your thermostat down two degrees in the winter, and up
two degrees in the summer.
3.) Replace faucets and shower heads with low-flow models.
4.) Stop using disposable bags, instead try using re-usable bags
when grocery shopping.
5.) Wash your laundry in cold water instead of hot.
6.) Support your local community and shop at your local farmer's
7.) Try paying your bills online, it's a paper saver!
8.) Try line-drying your laundry during the summer months.
9.) Make green product choices (i.e. EnergyStar, WaterSense,
& SmartWay) - check out the Environmental Protection Agency's
(EPA) green products web portal to help guide you in your green
10.) Recycle materials such as glass, plastic, metal, and paper
properly. Call 1-800-CLEANUP to locate information on
recycling services and efforts in your area.
Remember, it's never too late to get started! You don't have to
do everything at once, start by choosing five tips from the list
above. Once you've mastered those five, add a couple more!
