Question
When Tecnu contacts the poison oak oil or resin, does it break it down, chemically, into inert substances, or does it simply loosen its grip on the skin so that it can be washed away.
Similarly, if I wash contaminated skin with Tecnu and rinse it off in a certain place in my yard, will that spot in my yard be a hazard for "reinfection" with the oil or resin?
Answer
Tecnu breaks the bond that the poisonous oil makes with the
proteins in our skin, it does not break it down, chemically into
inert substances. It may be possible that some of the oil residue
could reside where you rinse off, but we have never tested that
theory. We have never heard of anyone becoming re-contaminated from
such exposure.
