One of the challenges with getting outdoors during the winter is
how it makes your skin chapped and dry. The colder it is, the
dryer our skin becomes. However, there are a few tips that can help
you from becoming too dried out:
- Take shorter showers and fewer baths. Hot showers can
strip away the body's natural oils and dehydrate the skin.
- Use mild soap instead of antibacterial, deodorant or perfumed
soap as they are harsher on your skin.
- Change to a mild laundry detergent. Some detergents contain
chemicals that can be harsh on your skin.
- Use a mild moisturizer such as petroleum jelly, mineral oil or
vitamin E capsules. Rub it into your hands and feet before going to
bed.
- Be sure to change your razor often as a dull razor can irritate
your skin. Shaving cream or gel will help as well.
- Wear sunscreen all year round. The sun can still damage your
skin in the winter.
- Use lip balm and try not to lick your lips.
- Use a home humidifier to keep moisture in the air.
- Eat a well-balanced diet and drink a lot of water.

For minor skin rashes caused by winter itch, we recommend using
Corticool 1% Hydrocortisone Gel.
